The Protestant Reformation and the Middle East

Rev. Habib Badr and the Baord of Elders of our church held a reception and dinner in honor of the participants in the International Conference on The Protestant Reformation and the Middle East, on Tuesday, March 17, 2015. It was a historical event indeed that the oldest Catholic University in Lebanon, St. Joseph (USJ) which was founded in 1881, and the oldest Protestant Theological seminary in the ME (Near East School of Theology - NEST) joined together to participate in the Luther Decade which is leading up to the commemoration of 500 years anniversary of the Reformation in 2017. (Program of the Conference)  

Many distinguished guests attended the occasion. Among them were: Her Excellency Prof. Margot Käßmann, Ambassador for the Reformation Anniversary in 2017 on behalf of the Council of the EKD; His Grace Bishop Munib Younan, Evangelical Lutheran Church in Jordan and the Holy Land, President, World Lutheran Federation; His Excellency Mr. Christian Clages, Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany.

World Day of Prayer 2015

Christian Women in Lebanon celebrated World Day of Prayer (WDP) on Friday, March 6, 2015 at the Near East School of Theology in Beirut. WDP is a unique worldwide inter-denominational worship service that each year a country would write it. This year, the service was written be the women of Bahama. The Theme was taken from the Gospel of John 13:1-17

"Jesus said to them, Do you know what I have done to you?"

The speaker was Dr. Rima Nasrallah van Saane. Theme was on the "Radical Love"of Jesus Christ. 

Gabriele Mayer Speaks to the Helping Hand Society

Gabriele Mayer, head of the Women and Gender Office in the EMS association spoke to the women in the "Helping Hand Society" in our church on Friday, Feb. 20, 2015. Ms Mayer talked about her work and experience in EMS, particularly the programs that deal with women's issues and how the women's problems differ form country to country.  

Week of Prayer for Christian Unity 2015

The opening Week of Prayer for the Christian Unity was celebrated in St. Ephrem Church in Achrafieh, Beirut, on Sunday, Jan.18, 2015, at 6:00 P.M. And the closing prayer was in St. Elias in Antelias, Jan.25, at 7:00 P.M. Theme for this year is taken from John 4:7, "Give me to drink". 

Loving God, help us to learn from Jesus and the Samaritan that encounter opens for us new horizons of grace. In the name of Jesus we pray. Amen.
