Lebanese Interfaith Elder Care Conference

Moadieh Evangelical Center and Palm Village Retirement Community in California, USA organized the first Lebanese Interfaith Elder Care Conference.  It took place on the 5th and 6th of September, 2015 in Larnaca Cyprus. Participants were managers of 12 different Lebanese long term care centers of diverse faiths all having one objective in mind, caring for seniors in Lebanon.  Lectures tackled different topics relating to senior care. The first day  lectures were  “Technologies to Support Older Adults and their Caregivers” by Majd Alwan Ph.D and  “Treatment of Diabetes Today & Tomorrow” By Paul Norwood MD. The second day lectures were “Collaboration, the Challenges and Possibilities” by Rick Stiffney Ph.D  and “Eldercare in Lebanon, where are we now and where are we headed?” by Joyce Khouri Eid BSN, MBA

Learning, sharing and participating in collaborative work was the greatest success in this conference.

We give thanks to all donors who made this conference a reality mainly Palm Village Retirement Community, Mennonite Health Services, Mennonite Central Committee, Leading Age California and many many others.

And again, Moadieh Evangelical Center proves to be a leader in its field.

 

Confirmation Sunday at Dhour Shweir

The National Evangelical Church of Dhour Shweir held a Confirmation Service on Sunday, August 16, 2015. Eight confirmands from our church went through christian education sessions and deepen their faith and knowledge about their church. Now they are ready to participate in Communion by God's grace.  

Juliano Melki, Lea Sabra, Raja Asfour, Sarah Shehade, Samir Shehade, Hana Shehade, Omar Katoul, Karim Haddad.

"After their being sons and daughters of the church through baptism, presently they become members of this church, carrying its responsibilities, its faith and supporting its mission," said Rev. Habib Badr, the senior pastor of the National Evangelical Church of Beirut. 

"And now, little children, abide in Him" (1 John 2:28) 

 

Conference on Christians in Middle East

Our church participated in a conference organized by the Maronite League under the patronage of Patriarch Bechara Rai at the Notre Dame University (NDU) in Zouk Mesbeh, North of Beirut in July 24-25, 2015. The two-day conference was a voice to call for supporting Christians. Many church leaders, bishops, politicians and journalists participated in the conference.

The General Secretary of the World Communion Reformed Churches, the Rev. Dr. Chris Ferguson, was among the speakers. In his speech during the opening session, Rev. Ferguson referred to the communion and responsibility of WCRC toward the region. He emphasized the need for the unity of our churches and voices in order to make them heard, particularly at these times of the rise of religious fundamentalism. 

Summer Camp for Kids

Sunday School Camp for kids between 7 and 12 years old has just finished. The camp was from 21st of July till 25th, 2015. It took place in a beautiful area called KCHAG, Monteverdi, near Beirut. The kids enjoyed the camp very much and expressed their happiness by making new friends and getting the best edutainment experience by many activities. They enjoyed the swimming, sport, discovering nature, work shops, free play, and a lot of out door activities.

Happy Father's Day

Helping Hand Society honored the fathers of our church during their meeting on Friday, 19th of June 2015, and distributed a pin to them. Rev. Habib Badr addressed the community on this occasion. 

Happy Father's Day to all dads. 

A father is neither an anchor to hold us back, nor a sail to take us there, but a guiding light whose love shows us the way. 

 

German Protestant Kirchentag

Rev. Habib Badr will participate in German Protestant Church Congress (Kirchentag) in Stuttgart, Germany, between June 3 and 7, 2015. The Kirchentag is a lay movement. Nationality and religious allegiance are irrelevant. Even though the huge event bears the official name "Protestant". It is a platform for many deep discussions and critical debates upon current issues. More than 100,000 full time visitors will come, 30,000 active participants and 2,500 events within five days. It is a huge event and joyful festival that takes place every 2 years.

Theme for this year: "That we may apply our hearts upon wisdom"(Ps. 90:12)

Graduating Class 2015 at NPC

More than 30 students graduated yesterday, 23rd of May 2015 from the National Protestant Collage at Kfarchima. The guest speaker of this year was Abdel-Halim Caracalla, the founder and director of Caracalla Dance Theater. 

Helping Hand Society Trip to North

Helping Hand Society in our church organized a trip to North Lebanon last Saturday, 23rd of May 2015. They visited the Greek Orthodox Monastery of Watchman - Deir El-Natour at Anfeh, Oyoun El-Samak at Akkar, and Arqa Paradise - Jannet Arqa where they had their Lunch. It was great trip with many beautiful natural scenes of Akkar.

 

FMEEC Statement on Armenian Genocide

The Fellowship of Middle East Evangelical Churches (FMEEC) issued recently on April 2015 a new statement on Armenian genocide for the occasion of commemorating hundred years of Armenian massacre by the Ottoman power.

FMEEC waned to stand in solidarity with its sister Armenian churches, and to speak out about that horrible time in history of this nation and to call for recognition by all countries, particularly Turkey.

WCRC Call for Solidarity with Middle East Churches

The World Communion of Reformed Churches ended its executive committee meetings today, May 15th, 2015 at Dhour Shweir, Lebanon. They called for solidarity with the churches in the middle East, helping them to stand and live in peace in this time of conflicts and troubles. 

At the end, they made a statement in which they wrote what they heard from the churches in the Middle East, and their commitments to act accordingly to sustain Christians and therefore Evangelicals in the region, and to tell more about the Christians here wherever they are.

World Communion of Reformed Churches in Lebanon

The meeting of the executive committee of the World Communion of Reformed Churches (WCRC) is now in Dhour Shweir, Lebanon between 9 - 15 of May, 2015. Our church is member of this Reformed body that consists more that 300 churches around the world from more than 120 countries.

They are here to stand not only for our people but also for all who suffer the atrocities and were afflicted by war, and therefore we are standing with God, said Rev. Jerry Pillay, the president of the WCRC (and Read his address in the meeting)  

The opening service was held in our church last Saturday, and focused on the theme: God of Life, Lead us on the path of Justice, Peace and Reconciliation.
